she's acting as if I am a bad person because I got pregnant before she did. I do not understand this type of behvior.

Wow, I am truly sorry your sister is acting this way. The only thing I can think of is, that she wanted to be the first one in the family with a child, and now that you are pregnant she feels it wont be such a big deal when she has a child, but don't worry about....hopefully she'll get over it soon enough. Oh and congrats on being pregnant!

Sister in laws can be the most catty women on earth! They can be hurtful, spiteful and downright arrogant. My sister in law has never been happy about any of our three kids being born. But that's her problem. You're not a bad person - she has issues. Now my sister in law has jealousy for a different reason - she's going through menopause and I'm like 17 years younger than her. So menopause itself can make a woman nutty - maybe your sister in law has some hormonal issues too. Like mix hormonal issues with jealousy, bitterness, and anger - and you've got a psycho woman you're dealing with. You just have to share your joy with other people in your life and when she realizes that others are happy for you - she'll back off. We always invite other friends and family over who are happy for us so when the in laws come over - they realize how foolish they are being. They don't like it but when we invite others over who are happy for us and they have to talk to them - it forces them to at least be civil. Yes, when I first told sis in law was pregnant the first time - we didn't even get a congratulations until I said, "aren't you even happy for us?" She was shocked, angry and jealous about our decision and acted like we had decided to join a cult or something. Sheesh! I just try to ignore many of her comments like she didn't even say them. That's the best way I've found to cope in my situation. Just let her do whatever she wants, but if she's not happy for you - hey - one day she'll wonder - why don't you let the kids spend more time with her and why don't you ask her to babysit - and it's like - well if she's not happy about them - how can she act all supportive to help you - she'll realize when you're not as close as she would like - that she has made a mistake and hopefully will change her ways. Just don't have any expectations of sis in law that she will do anything or be sisterly like. Then, when she does something truly nice - it will be a happy suprise and no resentment for you. I wondered the same thing when my sister in law reacts - it's like - if I was in her shoes - I'd be happy for my sister in law. It's not fair and it isn't right so - just be happy and let her go suck on a lemon if she wants.

She's probably jealous of the added attention you are getting, and she also probably really wants a child of her own as well. She'll get over it, just give her a little time and space.

She's envious, she needs to get over it or it will eat her up inside. You don't need to worry about it, if she treats you badly she is the one forcing herself away. If she can't deal with it then don't hang around with her.
