The turtle will eat or nip at the ones he can catch. We put feeder fish in with our baby turtles and they eat them. If you value your fish you don't want to put a predator in with them. It is fun watching the turtles chase the fish, but like I said we just put feeder fish in their tank.

As others said, you wont find floaters, you will find a lower fish count.
I accidently introuduced my daughter to the circle of life this way when she was 3, almost 4. We bought a turtle and some tadpoles (almost to frog point) for my moms pond. Took them home then went to clean out the pond before adding everything in. Well we tossed everyone (turtles, frog) into a kiddie pool and it took all of 3 minutes for the red eared slider (not poisenous or illegal) to bite the tadpole in half while my 3 yr old watched. She had named the turtle "Swim-away" and she said "Mommy, Swim-away is a BAD turtle, she ate my froggie!" It was sad, she was forgiven, I was kicking myself for forgetting to seperate them.

So there is another point, we were putting turtles into a 1500 gallon pond, NOT a 20 gallon tank. A 20 gallon really is not suited for turtles unless they will never be bigger than a silver dollar, and if you find anything like that let me know!

Turtles DO carry salmonella as do most reptiles and aphibians, the key is to wash up after handling them, always.

Friends of mine used a kiddie pool, filtration, gravel, plants (the turtles ate them) and mesh to cover the top to have an indoor turtle pond, you could try that if you have your heart set on turtles but do the research first. Also, never do what I just suggested if you have small children, it would be a certain drowning hazard no matter how careful you think you can be.

Ahh, unfortunately, cute as they are, turtles eat fish. Now, as baby turtles, and I mean about the size of a quarter, yes, you can put them in with your fish. However, not for long. Turtles grow. Most common water turtles get about 10 in long and will gladly eat every little fish you let near it. You won't even find a floater, it just won't be there. :(

A 20 gallon is not large enough for even a single turtle of average size. At a small size the will be fine. I have mine in a 50 and that to me is a bit to small. I'm waiting to set up my 120 again.

Turtles are also very destructive. You will find your tank rearranged to suit your turtle rather than what you want :)

Here's some info on care of turtles:

particular, And particular. Now for the truthful reality. They turles will likly attempt to kill one yet another while they alter into adults in the event that they're adult males or saved in to small of an enclosure. 2 turtles will desire a minimum of a one hundred twenty five gallon aquarium, look it up they're extremely high priced! additionally fish and turtle can stay together, I even have 7 turtles in a inventory tank and that they have got like 25 goldfish and a KOI! and that they are all chuffed together!

The turtle will do fine. It might even eat allthe fish. The parasites that are natural on turtles will make the fish ill. The turtlle needs to be able to get out of water. It doesn't want to swim all the time.

Aquatic turtles eat fish, so most likely you will not find them floating at the top of the water, they will just be gone.
