Yes! Yes! Yes! I don't know why, but it helped me immensely. I had predomal labor for several days, no sleep, and I was miserable. I went to the hospital (for the second time that week!) and it was too early to give me anything for the pain, so the nurse put me in the hot tub and gave me a folded up towel to put my head on. I got the first good sleep I had had in days in that tub! I still felt the contractions, but I was so much more comfortable. The nurse practically had to drag me out. :) Definitely take advantage of the tub if you have the opportunity.

Yes, do it.
I had a home birth with my last child - all natural, and no drugs. I labored the whole time in a pool of very warm water. It reduced the pain of contractions all the way down to nothing. I swear it was just as good as the epidural I had with my previous birth.
I know it worked because when I stood up several times to have my midwife check me, I'd feel the contractions (and back labor). As soon as I got back in the water, the pain went away.
Others I know & have worked with have said the same thing about a tub of water. I've heard just a shower isn't nearly as effective but it's worth a shot if it's all you've got available.
If you go to this link :
http://notjustskin.org/en/index.html - it talks about water during birth and labor under "birth options".

Yes it worked for me with my fisrt but not with my second. So it will probably depend on the labour and how you feel. IT was absolutely lovely with my first but with the second it just annoyed me for some reason.
I was in labour for only 9 hrs (seemed like forever at the time) and I was in the bath, shower and pool. Yes it was slightly annoying getting in and out but I had too cause that is what helped me.
Have someone there to help you so you dont slip and fall.
I was just doing circuits of the three (birthing centre). So I would be in the shower for 20 min, then have a lay down, PAIN, so I'd go in the pool for 20 min, then lay down, PAIN, so I'd go have a bath. I did that for hours. Nothing else worked for me except going on all fours ( back labour )

So yes i'd go for the bath or shower but be prepared as you might not like it when you are actually in labour.
You can make all the plans you want but once you get there you never know how its going to go. You just have to find what works for you.

Good Luck and I hope you have a quick, painless and safe delivery.

We used to have our ladies either walk, take a shower or both. Not only did it relax them it took their mind off the labor pains. Sometimes I believe the warm water helped the baby to get born a little sooner, and of course the mother felt better as a result. One thing we did not recommend was taking a shower at home if it was second baby. We need you mothers in the hospital when the baby decides its "time"

Good luck to you and baby.

I've heard that tubs are great, unless your water has broken. I personally found a hot shower very relaxing.
