My children Sam and Josh are both infatuated with Hitler. i told him that he killed millions of innocent people but still they love him. i could see where there coming from because he was a murderer yes but he was also a genius that took on the whole world for a few years. not many people can say they did that. so i think ill let my children still love Hitler since they know and understand what he did was wrong. any ideas of if this is wrong or not ?

Ok, here's the deal. Hitler was a VERY strong leader. He was VERY charismatic. In my opinion, Hitler is the essence of Charisma.

As you already know, the things Hitler talked about lead to the death of many. However, those deaths were not by Hitler's physical hand. The fact is, he was such a powerful speaker that he convinced these people that my people, the Jews, are no more than vermin causing the disease and bad economy and whatever else Germany could have possibly been going through. He didn't _tell_ them this, mind you, he _convinced_ them.

I think my point is this... Hitler is someone to be learned from, but only when one is mature enough to know where they stand. His techniques for building the nationalism of the Nazi party was greatly successful, but his teachings that went along with his skillfulness would not be something I would feel comfortable exposing my children to.

Unfortunately, every now and then, being a parent means being "the bad guy". Good luck if you decide to tell them they have to stop.

It is obvious that society has sanitized history so much that people younger than 35 or 40 years old have no real clue just how evil and twisted Hitler was and the things his army and scientists did. I personally know 2 people who still wear the tattoos from Auschwitz and have many times told me stories of watching their parents being chosen and forced to strip naked and herded into a huge room and gassed. Most people have not the slightest idea of the cruelties that had taken place.

For those of you who compare Bush to Hitler. Maybe go to the library and study Hitler a bit. Like Bush or not there is not a similarity between the two. Using this comparison, is just a weak alternative to providing any credible or intelligent argument as to why you might disagree with Bush.

Hitler was no genius. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Hitler didn't take on the whole world, germany did. Germany, Prussia, etc were bred for war. Mercenaries durring our revolution came from this area. The terms of surrender of Germany in WW 1 are really responsible for the fervor of German nationality leading up to WW 2. In other words, WW2 would have happened regardless of wether Hitler had ever been born.

If anything, it is Hitler's actions that are the reason for Germany's defeat. He made bad choices regarding both the invasion of Russia, even with Napolean's example to learn from, and in defending itself from allied invasion.

The only other thing that he might be directly attributed for is the cowardly way he killed Jews, Polls, Czechs, and so on. Oh, and the phallic uniforms.

you may want to ask a question about why Hitler killed or had them killed , if he did, and that is getting a lot of debate lately since the Zionist can't seem to control the Internet as they have the news media, it may even be proved the holocaust is a propaganda ploy by some people who have a lot to gain by it such as the so called holocaust fund that Americas pays to Israel which is $11 billion a year, most people can't comprehend how much that actually is, plus England pays so much , Germany pays so much , that is why the Israelis have such a high standard of living in Israel today one hell of a lot higher than Americans do with servants and maids etc, how many servants or maids do you have?
yes your children might catch some flack for a while but, it seems more and more people are beginning to question holo caust, I think the truth will come out pretty soon to many people are getting wise to the Zionist propaganda machine.maybe they will wake up and see who the real enemy is,
howard k , Germany was starving because the Jew's had complete control of Germany and worked the people for beans starving them to death, their babies bellies pooching from hunger, in less than 10 years after Hitler took over Germany was a force to be feared as they had the strongest and best trained fighting force in the world, they were admired by all other coutry's and their people had their bellys full for the first time in quite a while, and he fought 80%of the world and would have won because as he had inscribed on every military belt buckle ( god is with us) but, he ran out of fuel and had to try to take Russia to get more fuel, he knew what he was doing, but, he had to take the risk ,but, again the weather came in a lot faster than expected and that alone stopped him,I will bet a lot of other men would be happy to be able to accompolish what he did in such a short time,
JAY don't believe every thing you hear, look fot the motive as to what they will or can gain by their story

Ok, well Maple is a moron so dont listen to her. I would try and break them of the infatuation because if they are still in love with him as they get a little older, people could take that "respect" easily the wrong way. This could result in all type of problems for them and I am not even taking about when they are like 20 and stuff. Kids are smart these days and they know what Hitler stood for and if it gets around that you have a two "Hitler Lovers" amounst other kids they will be pinned as Nazis and definitely picked on.

I think you're going to (already have?) rub a lot of people up the wrong way, with this question. That aside, I applaud your courage for asking.
I'll admit that Hitler did a mighty fine job of dragging Germany out of the horrendous mess that ensued post WW1.
However, the bottom line, the one that sticks in the collective memory, is that he practiced a particularly vile form of racism.
Not telling you anything you don't already know.
At this point, I'll say Suitable role model for children? Not in my opinion.
As for your kids, that's a tricky one. Taking any form of contrary stance is likely to further reinforce in their minds, the 'rightness' of their beliefs. So, beatings, and screaming at them probably wont work.
Simply doing nothing has been proven not to work, either.
You may not be able to change their minds, but you can go some distance to educating them as to the view (or, indeed, loathing) held in the wider community, for Herr Hitler.
Is there a Jewish centre, in your neighbourhood, where you could go, at first on your own, to seek advice, and later, perhaps, take your children. A place where they could meet people who have either directly, or indirectly been affected by Hitler's policies, and learn that it's probably in their best interests not to go spouting off remarks that are likely to, in the very least, cause offence, and possibly invite unwelcome retaliation.
My Father is a Pole, and a lapsed Catholic. He survived the Second War, and various camps, in both Poland, and Germany.
I have experience the 'Nazi terror' as closely as I could, without doing it first hand. Experiences like he had shape (scar?) a person.
Bah. Details. The issue here is not me, but you, and your children. I can't give you answers I don't have. Perhaps simply teaching them to be tactful would be enough. I don't know.

On the other hand, are they just winding you up? Teasing you? Having fun, at your expense?
It's one of those things that occurred to me. Maybe they're just being children. Children can be horrible, sometimes.

I'll apologise now for my lack of barbed racist comments directed at you, or the casting of aspertions upon your fitness as a parent, let alone as a human being, oh, and the vague possibility that this reply may help you.
I do try to 'go with the flow' with answers on Y!A; the snappy one liners, but sometimes I just can't seem to help myself.

Perhaps the best way to approach this, is in the realm of logic.

I'm sure you have heard many times that Hitler killed 17 million people...six million Jews...

What some people don't know, is that Hitler was just a lab rat. He had doctors that had him on every psychotic drug available.

He was very paranoid and delusional.

Most genocidal maniacs are very proud of their deeds, and when the heat comes down, they defend their right to kill their enemies. Saddam is a perfect example. Why didn't Hitler stick around? First puff of bad news, and he is committing suicide. Was he that much of a wuss that he couldn't even face up to his own misdeeds?

People who commit suicide are very weak and lack spirituality (or else they are puppets, playing to someone else's plans).

The reality is that Hitler was far beyond being a functional individual. He was gullible in the sense that he believed everything that his staff told him.

If your "children" need a hero, shouldn't it be someone they can respect?

OH YEAH, I LIKE THIS IDEA!
Why not send them to Charlie Manson camp!

Why don't you just keep the boys busy by taking the tires off the trailer and putting it up on blocks. Wash your Jack Daniels T-Shirt and and take them to the library and check out a book on Gandhi. Sit down and read it together.

AND TEACH THEM TO ADMIRE THIS:

"Some men see things as they are and say why?
I dream things that never were and say why not?"
Robert Francis Kennedy

Jason M : you're referring to RFK, not JFK, excellent reference and speech! Good for you, brother.

Rick N : "Senator Byrd" ... that's a good one.

Rent movies like QBVII, Survivor, Schindlers List as for starters. QBVII has a scene where some jews testicles are in a plate, I wonder if your son's would like theirs in a similar severving? This is what Hitlers cohorts did to humans.

JFK was good too. Get a clip on his speach after Martin Luther King was killed. It is the best speach ever made in history. Talk about a role model!
