Who better to help people than someone who knows exactly what the person is going through. I was diagnosed with severe depression and I am going to school for psychology.

Just remember you need to have your depression under control while you are practising...you may project on to you clients thing that you are dealing with. Be really in-tuned with your body and mind and visit your Doctor regularly. I am a survivor of domestic abuse who now works in the field. I have to do the same. You can do it and like everyone else said, you will have a better understanding of their disorders.

ha ha ha... yes, if you want to. An important thing, though, is to make sure you really want to be one, and it isn't simply your mechanism for self healing. It can be that, but it should be much more. The therapeutic process inherent in becoming a psychologist should help figure that out, though.

Definitely!! I heard somewhere that the best psychologist saught help first before they worked. You'll be more compassionate to their situation and you'll be able to relate which will help. Plus, you had/have depression, you are NOT it.

Yes, in fact you could be even better at it because you have "walked the walk". Plus, if thats what you want to do it should make you less depressed.

Yes. Most psychologists are psychologist because they have problems themselves, it's just that they are semi-in control of it.

absolutely. a common thought is actually that it is harder for people who haven't experienced psychological problems to get jobs in the field. while this remains relatively incorrect, i'm sure it doesn't hurt to have actually experienced a problem first hand before you help others get through it.

Yes. Why not? You'll be able to help others better because you will be able to understand their pain more.
