The good news is that AA's been keeping people sober since 1935, and Lindsay Lohan is not likely to make a dent in it. I'll still be sober whatever happens to Lindsay. My meetings will still be going on.
I hope Lindsay gets sober. But if she doesn't, I won't get drunk.

Lohan is taking an easy out, but I don't see that as discrediting AA. She is making a mockery of the people who are trying to get off drugs and alcohol.
AA deserves some discrediting. It has a 5% success rate, the same as no treatment at all. People exposed to AA are 4-5 times as likely to engage in binge drinking than those who attempt quitting on their own (Brandsma study). People in AA have a MORTALITY rate that is 5 times higher than those who attempt quitting on their own (Vaillant study).
AA is faith healing and doesn't deserve to be taken seriously; touting it as a solution, or as many do, the ONLY solution, it is a bigger insult to those struggling with substance abuse problems.

Well, you can't really disrespect someone without having respect for them first, which most it seems a decent number of celebs don't have, especially younger ones. But in their defense, if you ever spend any decent amount of time with a celeb, you'll quickly see how completely different of a world they live in, a world that can monstrously warp their sense of reality.
Does it discredit AA? Not at all. What they really need is a 12 step CA (celeb anon) program.

No. It's a shame that AA has gotten so caught up in evangalism. Just because someone tries it and doesn't like it doesn't mean that she's disrespecting the program. For the time being, however, it's just not the best option to help her control her drinking problem, given that it can't help her unless she wants to be helped. Perhaps she hasn't bottomed out yet.

AA sucks. It is a religious organization predicated on converting a vulnerable segment of society. The AA true credo? If you aren"t suffering and struggling everyday, you aren't recovering. AA sucks.

i think it says more about her than aa. she's obviously got problems and isn't ready to face them yet. i don't think she could discredit aa i think she's doing more to discredit herself. its really sad to see someone so young with so much promise destroy themselves
