If you're talking about getting them to do things like your laundry, clean the cat box, or help you overthrow the government... well, your expectations are too high.
Try setting more reasonable goals like chewing through wires, building a nest in your insulation, and pooping on the floor. I think you'll be quite pleased with the results.
