Though there are certain vulgar meanings for this phrase the correct one is -
Milking the cow can be used to describe attaining the absolute most from any given situation.
Sometimes called 'milking the cash cow', 'milking the cow' can also be applied to any franchises which continue to drain the public of as much cash as possible and attempt to attach the brand name to absolutely everything, be it cereal, video games, car adverts, tshirts, bedsheets, plush toys, action figures, computer accessories or anything else that would be seemingly unrelated.
This is the correct meaning and I think you can tell this to your sone safely. -

The original meaning of this phrase was to suggest that you were taking advantage of a profitable situation by squeezing as much out of the situation as possible... milking the cow for all its worth.
Sadly, as seems to be the case with an enormous number of old sayings, the new mentality seems to show a penchant for adding (or sometimes completely replacing it with) a sexual meaning. One can only hope that your son is not wondering about the newer sexual connotation.

It means, in the business world, to "Milk" the hours that you are working. For example: You work an eight-hour day. You finished your work in six hours, but you 'fake' being busy to stay 'on-the-clock' for the full eight hours. Sometimes you have more work you could do, but save it for your next work day.
You have "milked" it. I have never heard of it being used in a sexual way, but my environment does not lend itself to that type of conversation, so I am ignorant of it.
