Any suggestions on what type of engine would fit? Am I better off just putting a new or rebuilt 350.

I would put a 350 back in it. Anything else and you may have to put in a new wiring harness and computer.

Chevrolet has 6 versions of the 383 ci. inch engine. I would price one of their partial 383 engines and use your cylinder heads and everything else on top. The other option would be to buy a partial 350 version of which there is one the ZZ4 partial engine all engines above carry a 12 month 12,000 warrant. Figure what it will cost to properly rebuild your motor. I'd guarantee that that the GM completely new complete or partial motors would cost less.

depends on how much $$$ you are willing to put into it. Is this gonna be an every day driver if so i would go with the new 5.3 with active fuel managment . This engine produces about 75 more horses also about 75 more ft lbs.
