Stalin chose society over religion - did his atheism produce a peaceful society? When you look at atheistic cultures have they really treated their populace in decent and humane ways? I think you underestimate the amount of good that religion does in the world and underestimate the potential for people of no religious belief to do negative things - blaming everything on bad religion is surely as shallow as those who would want to say everything good comes out of religion?
Most of the religions (not all admittedly) do emphasise that doing good and choosing ways that are positive and peaceful is the best way to live. They provide moral and ethical frameworks which most people would agree with - not murdering - not stealing etc. without which civilisation, however you want to shape it and define it currently, would have been hard pressed to reach the form it is in now. Once again there are plenty of people who twist religions and make them into things they were not meant to be. Quote the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition at me if you like, but they were clearly far from the mark that Jesus Christ set. Yes you get hypocrites in all walks of society - religious and non religious.
I wonder really what is making you so angry. I think you have personal issues to be resolved. I don't think that the sort of aggression revealed in your questions is going to contribute magnificently to world peace. Try and be a little more objective and identify good and bad where it really lies rather than scapegoating one single supposed cause. Your attitude, sadly, is as bad as many of the religious biggots I have met.

honestly i lost faith in Church and the Bible and long time ago. When my mom was diagnosed with some sort of skin abnormality, almost kind of cancer. I do however, believe in God. Yet I would pick neither society nor religion. Both sides have their ups and downs. I do understand that people need something to believe in and others chose not to believe so they stick with society. So the ones that dont believe in neither like me, just stand in the middle creating new paths for themselves. A peaceful society will never exist because everyone has different values and morals. That's why i just stay in the middle.

Religion is a power over people which increases with the ignorance of the population. It can be rude and dangerous but I question the correlation with causality. I mean I think these conditions would exist in spite of religion and during these dark times while religion is used toward ends which are not even good, it remained a light non the less.

Actually, the bible says the world will turn against false religion, but there is such a thing as a religion that really listens to god.

i believe in God and have respect for all religions but I do not wish to follow one religion to the extreme. it's better to keep our minds open and accept something logical or better yet, the truths. but we can't really tell. well, i think i'll choose society.

We choose God my friend, for true spirituality comes from within, religion is a man-made excuse to judge and harm other people.

Hmmm Religion because it's only through my faith that I have been able to put aside any differences I have with other people.

I choose neither. Both are man made and both are ridiculously flawed.
