I don't prefer rap music, but I don't complain about it. I just change the station. Simple. It's just like when you hear a song you don't particularly like. You flip to another radio station.

While I agree with your comment, "if you don't like it, don't listen to it", some look at the big picture and think about the people who DO listen to it, and what kind of negative effect it might have on our society as a whole. In some communities, it's believed that one has to be either a rapper or an NBA player to be successful. Total lie. Some people take the "rap lifestyle" seriously and don't separate reality from fantasy.

there's something u guys dont understand. these rappers were people who had little to nothing growing up and had nothing to look forward to. they were also troubled teens and always getting in trouble when they were younger. they had always dreamed of having somethin, to be able to gloat about something because really they didnt have anything worth anything. now they have achieved something and they can finally brag about what they have-- something they never thought would happen to them. so when u see em talkin about 'bling' or their cars and stuff they are just fulfilling their dreams. leave em alone.
the girls u see in the videos, they only include em because they know that way the make the most money out of the franchise, and besides the girls agree to be in the videos; they werent kidnapped or any such things. they agreed because they are receivin a hefty amount of cash, and i doubt u'd say no if u were asked to dance for 15 seconds in a bikini for $200,000.
And if they rap about things that arent gloating, like 'choppers' and stuff , they are only being realistic. where they're from thats what happens. unfortunately they have been involved at one time or the other and thats the life they know. u can only say what u know, u know. I agree that the profanity is unnecessary but most people that dont listen to rap use the exact same words. yes, the 'f' word, the 'n' word(even white people) and all. it is foolish to deceive oneself and hypocrisy like that as just as foolish. i dont know where u get off talkin about use of profanity. its a classic example of the pot calling the kettle black(or something like that) or the one with log in eye tryin to remove speck from other one's eye.
Finally, rap is a combo of poetic, rhetoric(yes metaphor, simile, parallel structure, metonymy u name it) and slight vocal ability(carrying the verses, emphasizing the parts needed to emphasize and making the verses go with the beat) and ingenuity when given somethin to work with. But in the end, if u dont like it, just let it lie. we dont need ur complaints.

Well i think rap music is the one that has that notoriority for being degrading because it talks mostly about gangster and loose women. It just doesn't have respect for anybody. I don't think that in order to sing you need to make every other word a swear word. But yeah if you don't like this music don't listen to it. I sure don't.

I feel the same way. I don't like opera or country music. But I don't go around bitching about it all the time. People need to calm the **** down. It's a really stupid thing to get all pissed about. Just listen to something else. That's all they gotta do.

Because most people consider a lot of rap lyrics degrading...racial and sexual slurs, violence...it's pretty obvious. But I agree...if they don't like it, they don't have to listen to it. And they don't. I think they're more concerned that their kids will be negatively influenced.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=b9856_xv8gc... check this out .. they are talking about rock and metal in the 80's and how supposedly that music was all about sex and drugs and the guest in that show(crossfire) is frank Zappa.. frank Zappa is an AMAZING composer like no other... but check out how his view in music is, "THERE ONLY WORDS" and now 20 years later take a look at the music now its worst now they actually talk literally about sex! but not all of the songs are like that .. the only rapper i ike is eminem.. but lets look at reggae-ton .. i truly don't like that music cause now it really is just about sex and drugs. am not saying that it should be banded but i think there gone to far.. by the way am 15 and like rock and metal :D also don't like rap.

Simply because rap is not music. It is someone talking - mainly rubbish - over a rip-off of someone else's music, or a kerbum kerbum kerbum background.
Look at the titles - DJ Snodgrass ft Mr X (contains sample of Des O'Conner).
I am not knocking rap. If that is your thing, then fine. I just don't think it's music.

I don't know, but attempting to do the "Walk It Out" is really fun.
The complaining people fail to remember Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd songs that encouraged drug use and suicide.
P.S. Bob Dylan, "Rainy Day Women." Yeah. Everybody must get stoned.
P.S.S. No lame white men could make music with dance beats like rap.
