"When Life Throws You a Lemon, Make Lemonade!"

My friend and I have not settled on the meaning of this quote. He thinks it means when life throws you something (sour) something bad that you are suppose to make it better. SOO his view is based on if life throws you something bad, make it not bad pretty much.

MY VIEW point is that I believe when Life Throws you and opportunity one should sieze that opportunity. When life gives you a scholarship to college than you seize the opportunity to go to college and study (making lemonade out of it). I believe the lemon is an analogy for an opportunty that one should take hold of.

He believes the lemon is an analogy for a bad thing.

Are we both right, wrong or which was is the one you think is best?

Thank you so much and we can settle this stupid argument once and for all!

Sorry babe, HE IS RIGHT, just this once. Lemons are bitter like something bad. Lemonade is sweet like something good. It is about changing a bad situation into a good situation. Carpe Diem is more fitting for your view.

While I love you philosophy on seizing opportunity over having been given a bunch of lemons , your friend is closer about the meaning of the quote "If life hands you only lemons (sour bitter) make lemonade ( something sweet). Its about not looking at things or lemons so narrowly that you miss the potential or opportunity. In your analogy a scholarship would always be seen as a positive and not a negative situation to be overcome.

Basically it means that when something negative is going on in your life, then you try to make something positive out of the whole situation. Like if you work a job 60-80 hours a week and you can't take time to do something you need to get done because of work. Well, then you have to miss work for a few days from, let's say because your job has to shut down for whatever reason. You're going to be short on your paycheck but, now you have time to do what it is that needs to be done besides sitting around upset about missing work. Positive from negative.

First of all, let's clear it out. You're a positive thinker, and he's a negative thinker. Everyone has their own options he is right and so are you. But if i had to agree with one. i will definitely agree with your opinion. Life is like a lemon, when it gives you opportunities take it and make a lemonade out of it and it's so true. So i totally agree with you and good job for thinking positive. n it's also the way you look at it. so both of you are correct.

THE LEMON WOULD BE THE THING THAT IS NOT DESIRABLE. LEMONADE IS THE OUTCOME WHEN SOMEBODY TURNS A NEGATIVE THING (LEMONS- SOUR, BITTER) INTO A POSITIVE ONE (TART AND SWEET).
