Let X equal the unknown amount of your sales.

then, (8%)(X) = $784

dividing both sides of the equation by 8% gives:

X = 784/8%

Since 8% equals 0.08, substitute this for 8% to get:

X = 784/0.08 = $9800

Best wishes

Let a represent the sales amount.
0.08a = 784
Therefore a = 784/0.08 = 9800
