Do you mean "what happens when a person dies?" According to Hebrews 9:27 states after death comes the judgement.
If you are saved according to Romans 10:9 which is confessing you are a sinner and cannot save your self. Accept Jesus into your heart as you Lord and Savior. Daily pray to be lead by the Holy Spirit, live and walk in a holy and upright manner, then you are saved and your guardian angel (which was assigned to you at birth) will lead you to heaven. If you lived life like you were going to party hardy and hell with every one else, thats where you will end up. Of course those who live "normal" lives, don't offend, hurt, cheat or steal from others B U T have not accepted Christ as their savior will also be on the highway to hell. Most likely you will feel yourself falling into a deep, deep tunnel in which gets darker and darker. Then you will start to smell the stench of sulfer burning. Then the heat. Once you land in the mouth of hell you will be escorted to your "cell" according to your "works" on earth. The more serious the sins the more tortureous the penalty. There you will burn until eternalty. Unless you get shot into outer darkness (outer space).
The Bible is a guidebook for life that comes with its own death insurance policy (thru Jesus). Just like we have policyes and guidlines with the bank accts we open or the life insurance or car insurance coverages we carry. We either choose to be covered or not.
So you can choose to not choose and end up in hell or choose to accept and end up in heaven.
For more details read "Divine Revelation of Hell" by Mary K. Baxter who also wrote "a Divine Relevation of Heaven."

Read Stiff by Mary Roach. It is about what happens to the human body after death, particularly if you become an organ donor or donate your body to science. The book is witty and well written, an easy read. Worth buying.
Then read her other book, Spook. It is about instances throughout history, where people have tried to determine the location of the soul. Yes, I digress, however it is an interesting read, and a wonderful companion to Stiff.

The body perishes but the soul lives because as per science energy cannot be created or destroyed.

You stop feeling and get seperated from your body.
You then get taken away into a place where you remain in a deep slumber..you dont feel or know anything.
Until you get resurrected for Judgement day.

our soul/spirit leaves the container used for getting around on this plane of existence and continues on to a different plane of existence which we know nothing about until we ourselves will arrive

You die and that is it, you need to live life the best you can because its over when its over and if you live life thinking about death and fear it you will end up wasting your life in fear of either death itself, or of what lies in wait

our loved ones bury us. 6 feet under the ground. or, they could have us burned to dust and put in an urn. ;D
when we die, our soul separates from our body. our soul wander for a bit til it sees the light back to our Creator.

Many things:
1. You rot.
2. Your loved ones cry.
3. So do your creditors.
4. If you're an atheist or agnostic and lo and behold you're either knocking at the pearl gates or lining up to hell... woe to you!
5. If you're a believer and lo and behold there's nothing... woe to you! You could've had more fun down here.
