You don't provide any details, so it's hard to give a clear answer. Sometimes when the company you are working for is small, there just isn't anywhere for you to be promoted to. If it is a company where promotions are available, find out what is needed to be considered for promotion. Education? More experience? Seniority? Are you going above and beyond to show your employer that you want to rise in their company, or just working for the next paycheck?

A year and a quarter is not really very long to be working somewhere and expect a promotion. And, in theory, while no company should take into account an employee's personal life, it does affect their work.

That depends a lot on the type of work you do and how well you do it your attitude and so many factors what are you doing for the company that would be of benefit to them what outstanding thing are you doing for them to get noticed so that you may be considered for the next raise or promotion do you know your job so well that you can teach it to another person are you early to work punctual polite respectfull helpfull in other words what makes you stick out in a good way from the other workers ? been doing the same work for 35 yrs started out at the bottom and worked my way to the place where i am now have run several companies lousy typist but that wasnt my field what type of immage are you projecting what types of clothes do you wear immage has some bearing also realize it not about you its what can you do for them are you a team player do you anticipate what they need done and have it done before being asked to do it what skills or talents are you displaying give you an example on one job site I had some cleaning work to do one lady applied for the job and a young girl did also but I did something unheard of in the industry I watched the young girl who displayed a depth of maturity and knew what I wanted done and how i wanted it done and even made some good suggestions on an are I hadnt thought of so I hired her made her a supervisor and the older lady had to follow her directions I asked her if that would be a problem for her she said no and they worked togother extremely well in another case a young man who was about 20 applied for a job in electronic communications tech he showed such promise i sent him to school and promoted him to division manager and paid him $25.00 an hour to start within 2-3 years he was making $50.00 an hour plus expenses and was made a vice president and he handled things so well I could go on vacation ot take off and know things were in good hands and on the other hand i hired an 80 yr old as a consultant so it depends on you get the point BTW Iam retired now best wishes Gorbalizer
