I'm trying to picture how this would work, because I heard the train station was beneath the arena. From street level, did you enter Boston Garden through the front doors, then climb stairs or take an escalator up to the arena?? Or was the hockey rink/basketball court located at street level and the Train Station was in the "basement"??
Did hockey/basketball fans have to push through commuters on the way to see a game?
How did this work having a train station below an arena???
Always wondered about this!

TD Banknorth Garden is still directly over a train station, very convenient for commuters. The train station is part of the building, it is at street level

As per the prior 3 Answers BOTH the old and new Gardens were built over a train station (North Station, to be exact). The differences: the old station was larger and the complex also included a 20 story hotel; there were more tracks and low platforms and there was direct separate access to the Garden from the street as well as access from the station. There also was direct access to the elevated train lines' stations. The new Garden only has accesses that serve both it and the smaller station, and the station has high platforms. Because of the often very crowded conditions the new station is soon to be enlarged.
The elevated train lines have been torn down and replaced by subways to which there is no direct access.

TD BankNorth Garden is built over a train station, which is at ground level. Then you take an escalator up to the arena. I don't think this was the exact same set up in the old Garden, becauase the train is actually in the building right now, so you see a mix of people commuting and people on their way to the game.
