it depends. if you're gonna raise your child on the strip full of all those "adult" activities, it might not be a good idea. you could go for the las vegas away from the strip, where it is a quiet desert area with a good community. if you do that, you can take your child to special "field trips" in the strip for a magic show and a buffet or something. i think its okay as long as you keep your kid away from all the adult stuff until you think he/she is old enough.

I was born and raised here and I am the most well balanced person that I know. One thing to know is that they will grow up very fast in this town and be exposed to things that most kids in rural America will not see until they are adults or maybe even never. That is not necessarily a bad thing. If you instill good moral fiber and a sense between right and wrong, then they will use that knowledge to better themselves and not for evil. My sister is only 12 now and she knew how to play blackjack since the minute she could count to 21. Literally! But she is also a straight A student and voted top student in her school 3 years in a row.

The trick is don't let the streets raise them and they wont turn out bad. Not to mention for being "Sin City" there is very little crime here per capita. Sin only refers to the things that are legal anyway. Drinking & Gambling... and oh ya prostatution. But those are all things you would find in every major US city.

Oh and by the way this is one of the best questions i've ever answered about Vegas, it's usually all touristy stuff.

I just moved to Vegas 1 year ago from Los Angeles, and have observed pockets of very nice neighborhoods - Henderson, Summerlin, parts of North Vegas - that would appear to be a decent place to raise a child. When away from the strip, Vegas has a rather small town feel to it, friendly people, young families, and some retirees. Just like all big cities, there are the "bad" neighborhoods including downtown and the strip area.

I know several people who live in Vegas. They are just normal people. Schools a good. What do you think about raising a child in New York, LA, Chi town, dallas, miami, houston, etc. its a big town with lots of good things and lots of other things. No problem if you are a good parent

It wouldn't be that bad. There is more to Las Vegas than the strip. They have some nice homes away from everything.

Good place for kids, need to consider what education means to you. Good private and parochial schools, public depends where you reside.
Do not fear the strip as difficult for a child to get around without parent or guardian right besides them; need to be 21 to enjoy all the offered "sin" .
