I think that is where a lot of confusion comes in. I heard a little 8 year old girl give a speech once where she said proudly, "we are all equal" My heart sunk at the retorich coming out of such a little thing.

If I can't sing as good as you, are we equal? If you are not as smart as me, are we equal?

Being NOT equal, isn't that why we need EQUAL RIGHTS? So that those who are not equal are not oppressed by others? But isn't saying we are equal just a big lie?

No, everyone has equal rights. If we're all equal, then everybody would be the same and that's not fun. Our uniqueness is what makes the world goes round.

We are all CREATED equal. What you do after you have been created is what sets you apart from others. Your actions define whether your a good person or bad. Its not that people are not equal -- its that some are much better people than others. If you are lazy do you deserve equal pay as someone who goes out there and breaks their back to earn a living. Probably not. Equal rights is only a benifit to those who are not capable of obtaining what they want without someone handing it to them. If you work hard you can get what you want without it being a handout. By granting anyone special laws (i.e. homosexuals, muslims, illegals whatever) special rights because the are a certain way, believe a certain thing, is giving them special rights not afforded to someone that isnt like them. Its is WRONG.....!!!!!!

Whether or not we are all "equal" is moot. That we are all deserving of equal rights is the point. No, we are not "equal" in the "mathematical" sense, we are all different, of course. When one says "We are all equal" it means that, while we may have different abilities, different levels of intelligence, and even superior talents, no one is "superior" over another. That is what "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..." means. Not that "A=B", but that no man (or woman) should be seen as inferior or superior in a social context. So no, it is not a lie, we ARE equal, in this social context, and that is what "We are equal" means. I think a lot of the confusion lies in the fact that there are several definitions for the word "equality", and people get them confused.
One definition is: "The quality, fact, or state of being equal."
NO two people, let alone all of us, are equal under this definition. It would be unquantifiable in a human context.
Another definition is: The principle by which all persons or things under consideration are treated in the same way.
This is the definition that applies. No one should be TREATED better because they ARE better (in some sense, whether it be singing, intelligence, etc.).

We are all "equal" on paper. In theory we should all be able to access the same things in life and be treated equally. But in real life that is not the case.

If I can sing, does that mean you cannot? Of course not.
If I can draw, does that mean you cannot? No.

Just because I have a talent, that doesn't mean you can't develop yours. This is not the same as being "equal".

Equal rights only works on paper. In theory. If you want a snapshot of society and how people are supposedly equal, look to the top businesses. See how many people of colour, minorities and women are at the high management level. Then you will see what "equal" means.

People seem to confuse "equality" with "fairness"

All people should be treated fairly. No one should be discriminated against for any reason.

But we are not all created "equal". Where one person has weakness another has strength and vice versa.

Men and women are not "equals" they are not the same, physically or emotionally and therefore cannot be "the same". There should be "fair" treatment, but to speak of "equality" is silly, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, this is a product of an overly sensitive society that is slowly emerging.

we are not equal and some people still do not have equal rights under the law such as male circumcision of babies still being legal but circumcision of female children is illegal.but we are all humans and deserve equal rights under the law and a chance at everything available to anyone.

I agree with you...we all have the same equal rights.
I do not think that we are all equal though. I believe that the opposite gender to mine is the superior gender and I do not say this in hast nor without decades of thought put into it. I say this because I firmly believe that the women of the world are the only ones to keep mankind alive so far.
As soon as the women believe and act like they are our equals then they will find that they had to climb down to our level to be so. Furthermore they will find this only after Armageddon. Because once they live like us we are all going to hell in a rotted old hand-basket.

a real answer: by skill of definition, it says everyone seems to be equivalent, yet while positioned into prepare, it does not ever ensue. In prepare, communism, socialism, marxism CAN artwork, yet they by no skill will via fact everyone can get into potential with none stipulations and people are corrupted by skill of nature. There are "too many to have a tendency to" and you gets lazy ultimately, or you will get grasping (there's no person beneficiant man or woman in the international) so as you spot, absolute potential corrupts absolute. the difficulty with the Republic in Amerika is that it has no preventatives to maintain everyone from amending the form (which consists of abolishing specific rights) it is what's happening good now. people ought to consistently conflict with the government.with a view to maintain it purified, yet hence via fact the civil conflict (which grew to become into lost innovations you) no person has dared venture their government lower back. this is all down hill now.

We are NOT equal as people, thats a gimmie and self evident. Nor do we even have equal rights.. not even in the USA.. remember, the equal rights ammendment never passed.. for examples females are not subject to or even allowed in a front line combat unit, nor are they subject to selective service either.
