Well being from Texas of course I'm going to stick with my home state in answering this question. There is a subdivision outside of Austin in Hutto {10 miles max from Austin} with HUGE backyards, nice parks w pools and weight rooms, and in the price bracket you listed and naturally if you own the home the dogs aren't a issue. Only time the dogs MIGHT be an issue is if you rent. And the schools are good most of the houses are under 5-6 yrs old.

Lookout at brushy creek
Legends of Hutto are two nice divisions w large yards

Florida and Texas are some the fastest growing states because of no income tax. (Nevada has declined recently.) However, they make up for that in property taxes. Those often run lower than high tax states like NY or CA.

Your price value is out of whack though. A $500,000 house in Kansas or Missouri could purchase you a mansion in certain areas, while in New York or California, you get a shack.

Where I live in Kansas, you can purchase a stick built 2,000 sq ft. house for around $250,000 on 5 to 10 acres. However, in this area of KS, our property taxes are confiscatory.

Try going to www.realtor.com. They have listings for all over the US and Canada.

Good Luck

Las Vegas, Nevada (not the "strip")

Meets all of your requirements and more! No state income tax, and currently a buyers market with prices declining.

Sales in Texas & Florida are in a slump.

Best of luck in selecting the perfect city for you & your family!
