any Mac or powerbook of course! u will figure your way around it-it's no rocket science. You are ok if u choose between a Dell inspiron (the lastest the better) and a Toshiba, they are solid. i have a latitude D600 small but its given me service just fine. so if i upgrade its a mac.
if u want more bang for your money look at Avaratechs or Acers. they both give u more features than Dells, toshibas, or sony's at the same price. and they are well established performers.

Personally, I like Windows systems but that's probably just because I'm more familiar with them. If you've been using Windows based desktop for quite some time then you might be well advised to purchase a Windows based laptop as well. A lot of this is very subjective but it does seem to me that Mac users swear by them and Windows users just swear. There must be some reason, though, why Windows based systems are so popular.
As far as the best laptop, you're going to need to do some research. I own and love an HP laptop, my wife has gotten a lot of mileage out of an older Dell and we've just purchased a new Gateway. The Dell has given us great service, the HP seems like it'll do the job for quite some time to come and the Gateway comes highly recommended.
Decide what you want to spend, decide what you want your laptop to do; and then begin shopping for laptops that fit your budget and your needs. I think you'll find that most of the major manufacturers will offer at least one well reviewed model that can be customized to fill the bill.

I personally like the windows platform. It takes a user with a little more knowledge of computers and operating systems to use a mac. With windows, you will not have to do anything extra for school/work related activities. Most people are already familiar with the PC.
I recommend Dell computers. Simply because they have great specials and coupons for their machines. you get a great computer for a great price. If you use a good anti-virus and anti-spy-ware product, you can expect to get a long life out of yours.
There is a 20% off $99 coupon good until 1/31 at http://www.24houredeals.com/dell-coupons-23-mer.html you can use.

Well, firstly, get Windows. (This does not mean I am aganst Mac).
Brand - HP. No arguements. Dell is for CHEAP (as in horrible) computers that I dont know what for and what the SH*T they can do.
HP is, eh, more, eh, ... trustworthy.
Hope ths helped.

From my experience, definately Mac is the best. But if you are going for windows, go with Toshiba. My computer smart friend recommends that.
DON'T get dell! They really aren't that good.

certainly windows if u're not too familiar with programs and computer. Windows OS is more user friendly and is certainly more compatiable when running most softwares and downloads..
I don't fancy Dell, especially Dell Latitude. It's got really crappy keypad and touch mousepad. It makes me frustrated everytime I have to type on that laptop.
