Everyone seems to have this problem. What I did was to return the open game for an even exchange for another of the same. Just tell them it doesn't work and ask for an exchange. This worked wonders when I had this problem.

A lot of my EA games have problems like this if I have the virus scanner on.
When you install an EA game like sims 2, you should disable the virus scanner and any other program you are not using to free up your system resources.
DO NOT surf the net or do anything without the virus scanner working, just install the game.
Once installed re-activate your virus scanner.
Why? For some reason the virus scanners interfere with the EA game install program.
