looking to get a fish tank (less than 10 gal) for a few fish. where can i get the best price and around what ill i be paying.

I checked the walmart website but they only have fairly expensive tanks..Also will a 10gallon tank fit in my room? theres a little stand that is prob about 3ftx2x wide

And you can also do a search for your local fish club, as well as your local newspaper classifieds.
I don't suggest you go any LESS than 10 gallons, because that's about the minimum size to have a handful of nice fish (a few tetras, a few guppies, a few platies)... Anything less than about 6 gallons isn't suitable for anything other than a betta or a couple of shrimp.
You can probably find a 10 gallon tank with lid, lights, heater and filter for about 20$.

Like 8 Neon Tetras, 5 Kuhli Loaches, 6 Ghost Shrimp, and so on.

Yes Wal-Mart is the cheapest I have found.. Now you cna get the 10 gallon tank for just $10. I myseld went with the starter tank, it consist of 10 gallon tank, decorations, filter, lid, light bulbs, fish food, water purifier and a couple of other things for $27 . A great deal you cldnt even get the tank, lid and filter for that if you bought piece by piece. So the starter kit is a great deal.

wal mart has the same tank as pet smart or even petco and is way cheaper

walmart or check out your local freecycle group. on that site, they give it to you for free.
