It's all relative. Poor in the US is better off than rich in many countries and better off than middle class in most countries, and it is also temporary in most circumstances. Of the bottom 20% by income, between 80% and 85% leave that group within a decade because they improve their income - and the fact that they leave that group, which is mostly people just starting out, is why they don't bring it with them, why the GROUP doesn't move up as fast as other groups. In fact more people in the bottom 20% today will be in the top 20% a decade from now than will still be in the bottom group. And when you consider the growing "income gap" that means absolute mobility is increasing (your chances of jumping a 'quintile' will remain the same even as the gap between it and your present 'quintile' grows).

When it comes to the rich making their money, they make it by working their butts off to earn a living.
I think someone already said this but I'll reiterate for emphasis: Fast food is fattening, but is the cheapest food you can buy that's already hot. That's why so many Americans are fat (but not this American).
Cable companies are making "the big bucks and everyone is struggling" because the ones who are struggling are too busy watching their cable tv and giving the cable companies all their money to do anything else with their lives.

I was poor once.I am now rich.I changed my way of thinking.Instead of being a victim ,I told myself"what one man can do,another can do".I did it,So can you
I was a high school dropout
HERE IS A TEST FOR YOU.Take an amount ofmoney. What ever you can afford. You are never to spend this money. You set the goal of doubling this money in 1 year.In ayear or less. When you double it,you do the sam ething again. You never spend this money only try to double it.GAMBLING IS NOT ALLOWED!!
aFTER 7 YEARS OR 7 DOUBLINGS you will be amazed at how easy it was.It strats getting harder when your at 500,000 and over because you have to educate yourself as to how money really works. This is knowledge and no one can take that away from you .....ever.You dont have to go to school for this knowledge .It is free for thetaking.Talk to business owners, mortgage brokers go to free investment seminars etc all free and more interesting once you see some gains
that is why the rich bounce back so fast when they lose it all.The money is gone but the knowhow remains

the majority of millionaires made their own money, not inheritance, not the lottery. the key to wealth is building a successful business. to do this one needs an education and the drive to succeed.
obesity is not a sign of wealth, it is improper diet. fast food will make you fat, but doesnt require a large income.
cable companies learned that americans will skip a meal if they can have cable.......thats america

Digital cable! Must be nice. Can't get anything but plain old vanilla basic cable and dial up internet in the sticks.
And it is the poor people out here in the sticks with me that the rich exploit and make $$$ off the sweat of their brows.
Been to the grocery lately? Twinkies are cheaper than fresh fruit.

The rich make their money a multitude of ways. Its called free enterprise. They provide a good or service and you either buy it or don't . You are not giving anything to the rich. And everyone isn't struggling.
And everyone doesn't have cable, either. There is satellite or inexpensive DVD's. We didn't get cable until this past summer when I wanted it for my business.
Twinkies have always been cheaper than fresh fruit. And with California losing 70% of its citrus to freezing (so much for global warming), don't expect the price to come down.

Fast food (Junk food) athough fattening, is the cheapest food available, that's why the poor eat it. Healthy food is expensive. Cable & TV is one of the least expensive forms of entertainment. Everyone needs distraction & everyone has his/her priorities. However, everyone is not struggling.
