My husband watched it being done and my son never even cried. After it was over I gave him a bottle and never heard a peep. =) He healed great and never had a problem. It really depends on the baby they numb it first with a spray so that helps. My best friends son cried when they sprayed the spray cause it was cold but he fell alseep for the procedure! If you want to be there for it you just have to ask, you have that right. My husband made sure he was in the room.

They usually do not cry because of the initial procedure. Most of them that I have done usually cry primarily due to being taken out of their nice warm blanket and put on the circ table. There is usually a surgical assistant in the room to help calm the baby and to help hold him/her still during the procedure. Anesthesia is usually not used unless requested by the mother since there are no adequate nerve endings in the tip of a newborn's penis.

They wouldn't let us in the room but my son only cried for a few minutes and then seemed fine. I know that the American academy of pediatrics say that you shouldn't have it done and someone else here said it also- but I strongly disagree. Ask any grown woman what they would prefer and the majority will say circumcised men! Get it done he will get over the brief pain and it heals quickly.

You aren't there during the procedure. But, there is a local anesthetic that is done to ensure there is as little pain as possible. Afterwards, he was fine. I could tell he'd been crying - his eyes were watery. And, of course I felt guilty as hell. But, I know it's for his best interest...and I'd do it again if this baby is a boy.
There are medical reasons to support circumsizion. Check it out. They recently started this as a government policy in Africa because it's shown to help prevent AIDS and STDs as well as UTIs. Just think this coincides with India's huge AIDS epidemic because they don't circumsize.

When my son got it done I couldn't stay, so his dad did. His dad said he cried a lot at first but the paci calmed him after. He had no other problems while it healed.
