I wasn't spanked and I have never committed a crime, verbal commands work best. Why hit your kid when you could not hit your kid?

I was beat with a belt in my teens, and I'd have to say that it did more harm than good. The lesson that I ended up carrying with me wasn't "don't do this" but rather "don't get caught doing this." It should also be noted that the ONLY place that I got in trouble was at home. At school, I was a perfect student, which is pretty impressive, considering that I was ADHD (diagnosed as hyperactive at a young age, but unmedicated, and self-diagnosed with ADHD when I read up on it as an adult). So, at school, where they weren't allowed to touch me, I never even got wrote up, and yet I got beat at home for the silliest things. I have no fond memories of discipline, and am mostly anti-spanking for children. (Though I find it quite erotic to put a naughty young lady across my knees for a warm bottom. This isn't scarring from the spankings that I got, though, as I can remember fantasizing about the neighborhood girls being spanked when I was much younger.)

My Mom did not believe in a lot of punishments--but when she did she believed in spanking. So I had less stuff like groundings, loss of privileges, etc. than most kids --but more spankings.
Of course, they jurt like heck when I got them. But I do know they helped me. I remember sometimes thinking--well it is possible I could get spanked if I did this--and then this would give me pause for my developing moral and common sense to kick in and sometimes (not always:)) would decide against doing it.
Also, when I was getting older I thought I was too old to be spanked so I would try to go for a week, month, all summer, etc. without getting a spanking. This, of course, caused me to try and avoid those things that got me a spanking. It also impressed my Mom. One time I did get one and I asked her "Do you know what bothered me most about that spanking?" Mom said "that you got it on your bare butt." (I had been trying to persudade her to only spank me over my underwear)--But when I told her that it broke my no-spanking project, she was very impressed. I think this helped us form a better, more adult relationship.
So no it did not hurt me at all in the long run.

I got spanked and it didnt hurt me I just told my brother to flex his butt. Really wasn't very often. I did learn to think before I talked by getting popped in the mouth. I still usually say what I think. I mean if you look at nature the mother cats and coon and all kind slap the little ones if they are in danger or not paying attention or fighting too much.If it is not abusive beatings a swat or a smack on the rear gives a kid a realignment to be good. Lasts three to five days.

I was, but I cant answer whether or not I was emotionally scared, because maybe I am and I dont know that its a result of spanking. Either do it and not know the emotional outcome or dont and have a bad kid running around.

If you have to spank a child more than once or twice, it's not working. I got three in my life.I wonder if that's what kept me in line(either that or I was naturally good)
