I'd like a dramatic piece with about 16-20 characters (about equal m/f parts). The group is quite diverse (mostly black and white) and has amazing abilities. The set would have to be a unit set (no major changes!) I don't want it to be above and beyond a high schooler but not anything cheesy either. I need something the actors and audience can say "wow" to. I would love a play where people leave having been touched and maybe even learned something. Thanks for your help!

Our Town

That is a great one! Minimal sets. Above all it's a great script!

Good luck! Let me know how it goes

"Our Town" by Thornton Wilder is an amazing work of American drama and is exactly what your looking looking for. The cast is large enough and for the set well that's no problem because there is no set! The whole show is done with the use of well placed props and imagination. It is a dead ringer for a high school production and will most certainly touch each and every member of the audience. Lets ask this.. Are you willing it to be a musical or just a play?

If you want a musical, I say try "Into The Woods" Its a marvelous muscial in 2 parts and I loved it at my local college. I can bet anything that a high school could do it. Or even do it with some editing.

ANother play you could try would be Lanford Wilson’s “Book of Days”

Hope you do your best!
