So it is 5/6 times x = 60

The inverse of times 5/6 is divide by 5/6. So you have to divide 60 by 5/6. That's like multiplying 60 by 6/5. That is 360/5, which reduces to 72. So x = 72. Good luck!

If the problem is 5/6 (five sixths) times x = 60, then solve like this:

Multiple both sides by 6 to get rid of the fraction:

6*(5/6)*x = 60*6

5x = 360

now divide both sides by 5 to isolate the x to solve:

5(5x) = 5(360)

x = 72

====================

If the problem is 5 over 6x.... 5/6x, then solve like this:

Multiply both sides by 6x so that the "x" is back "on top" and isolated on one side (the 60 side)

5/6x * 6x = 60 * 6x
5 = 360x

now divide both sides by 360 to get the x all alone (to solve)

5/360 = 360x/360

1/72 = x

that should do it.

You should not be asking for answers on your homework. But I will tell you how to solve it. First, multiply all the terms by the denominator, which is 6. So you now have 5x=360. Then divide 360 by 5. So now, x equals ?. Got it?
PS- I am not sure what you mean by the x in the middle, but that is how you solve it, if I am understnading the form of the problem.

Trust the teacher... It's 72. 50 * (5/6) does not equal 60, nor does 5/6 of 360. You can check the answer by putting it back into the original equation :)

To isolate x one must divide both sides of the equation by 5/6. When we divide fractions, we must invert and multiply, son multiply both sides of the equation by 6/5. This will isolate x on the left of the equation, so all you must do now is to solve 60 x 6/5.

Times the inverse the the fraction and you will get the answer:

(5/6)*(6/5) x = (60)*(6/5)

5/6c=60

6/5*5/6x=60*6/5

the 6/5 and the 5/6 cancel out and u are left with

x=360
