It may have slipped out of place. if its not it correctly then you very well be pregnant. IUD are the mst effective form of birth control, but there is always a chance, no matter how slim, if you have sex. still havent found that birth control that say 100% on the box =) Good luck

For those of you keep going on about safe sex with an IUD. A doctor will not give you and IUD if you havent had any children and arent in a monogomous relationship. They tell you that upfront. OF course it is up to you to be honest about that. People on here dog on everyone for not useing birth control, yet when someone has a question about weather they can be pregnant while be on birth control they go on about std's. We all know how it works. Answear the question or dont.

Wow, I'm surprised at the negative responses that this question got. I guess it's because when people think of the IUD, they tend to think of the kind that was very popular in the 70's. THAT kind wasn't very good, and was taken off the market, but the ones today are very good and are about the best form of birth control there is.

What brand do you have? Mirena? That's the one I have. I've had it since last March, and so far, so good.

The chance of getting pregnant with an IUD (and I'm not sure if this applies to all or just the Mirena, but I think all) is about 0.1%. It has better odds than male sterilization!

It is for women who have had at least one child, who are in a monogomous relationship (because it doesn't protect against STD's), and who do not have any history of eptopic pregnancies.

IUD's work in several ways, and they're not really sure which one of them works the best. First, they secrete a low level of hormones. Second, it gets in the way of sperm moving around, making it way less likely that they will find an egg to fertilize. And third, it keeps the uterine lining from growing, making it so that if an egg did happen to be fertilized, it would never implant and would just pass or be absorbed.

What it sounds like to me is that either you are having a bad reaction to it (IUD's just aren't for some people), it has slipped out of place, or if you are in fact pregnant (there is a tiny chance you could be), then it would likely be an eptopic pregnancy and would, unfortunately, have to be terminated.

Ectopic pregnancies happen when a fertilized egg implants in your fallopian tube instead of your uterus, and as it grows, it either miscarries or causes your tube to burst. Either way, the pregnancy is not viable.

I hope that the pregnancy test is negative in this case. And please, ignore all the people harassing you about having unprotected sex, because they're wrong.

Good luck!

It's definately possible to get pregnant with an IUD...I did. I didn't have your symptoms though. My cycle was like clockwork every month so when I was two days late, I did a home pregnancy test and it was positive. It never hurts to do a pregnancy test at home, and even if it comes out negative, you should check with your doctor in case it slipped. My doctor warned me that within a few months of it being inserted, it's possible for it to slip and tear a tiny hole, which would cause bleeding. Good luck.

When I was younger volunteering at a at risk youth center, I was confronted by the same question. I use to in process the student and when I had asked her if she was pregnant she responded uncertain. I directed her to a social worker who told her where to go for help. Months later I spoke to the very same girl and she was pregnant. They didn't mind, but they assumed it would be very safe. It wasn't. I have never heard stories like that regarding the Depo-provera though.

yes you can, i had my paraguard in for two years and got an ectopic pregnancy in my left tube and i was 6 weeks along. i had to have emergency surgery because it couldve ruptured and i couldve hemmoraged. i have no children yet and the doctor said there is a chance it could happen again. so just be careful.

The rate is less than 1 percent a year but yes, it's possible.

It's possible..but it's also possible the IUD isn't for you....you might need some other kind of birth control...

With IUD's you do get pregnant, or at least the sperm enters the egg. The IUD just interferes with it attaching to the uterine wall. So basically it's a mini abortion each time.

IUD's do not protect you from STD's. News flash you are having unprotected sex.

i have heard it can happen, but you definately need to wait for your doctor to confirm. you can try an athome pregnacy test but nothing is certain until you get that blood test and the doctor figures out what is happening! good luck!!

Try the Nuva Ring if your considering another form of birth control. (If your not pregnant of course)
