I have been bleeding for about 3 years more or less steady. I will have a day or two off every couple of months. My gyn doesn't know what it is. The medicine is not working either. Somedays are really heavy (like I go through 2-3 pads per hour) others are really light.

What state do you live in! It sounds like you really need a different GYN. That is not normal and it is also dangerous, you are probably severely anemic. I am going through the same thing believe it or not, I went for like 2-3 months with no period at all and then all of a sudden it started with no warning and then went for 4mths. It stopped because I finally got insurance and saw a GYN who gave me Depro Provera injection. My period started 2 wks after the shot! I to am sick of my periods, I had another injection of Depro yesterday and hopefully my period will stop again. I am going to see a specialist at Wash U here in MO soon, and I am praying he has some answers.
My advice is to get one or two more opinons, you should not have to live like that. Have you tried something like Depro to stop or regulate your periods?

I guess your gyn has tried different birth control pills to regulate you. He must have also done an ultrasound to check for abnormalties, such as uterine fibroids. If he did a check that you are not anemic (loosing too much blood) and you are ok then he must not be concerned. If you are still of child bearing age he could try stronger hormone pills, if you don't want any more kids, sounds like you need a hysterectomy (get rid of the uterus and you won't bleed but keep the ovaries so you won't get hot flashes.)

I really think that you need to change your Ob-Gynecologist. Female problems are more common than you think so start talking and go to a better Ob-Gynecologist recommended by another lady. There is treatment for your condition other than hysterectomy. In the event hysterectomy is recommended due to possible fibroids always ask for a 2nd opinion and third opinion if unsure. The key for conquering your health is PREVENTION. If the root of the problem is found than that will be the end of it. I wish you have a quick recovery.

That happened to me, but I went to see my Gyn about it and she put me on the pill to make it stop as well as to regulate it.

How can your Gyn not know what is causing the bleeding? He/she should know! Go to another Gyn (especially a woman) as well as a Endocrinologist (specialist in hormonal disorders).

Usually when you bleed non-stop, it means you don't ovulate. But when this happened to me, my bleeding was not as heavy as yours.

See another doctor.

Geeez - go to another Dr. the one you got is not helping you.

Could be many things

Bleeding all the time can lead to long term health risks -anemia etc.

Are you on birth control...my ex had that problem for a while...she can not take any kind of birth control or that happens, she had it for about two years before they determined what it was that caused it.

you might have endometriosis. I would recommend going to a new doctor cause the one you have sounds like he's pretty wack.
