My period used to be a little irregular (definitely not an exact 28 day cycle). I went on birth control (Alesse) for 1 year, and since I've been off (about 4 months) my periods have been exactly 28 days apart. Is that normal?

Yes, it's normal.

Good to hear your periods are normal now even after being irregular before you went on the pill.:)
Some women who are irregular due to hormonal imbalances never become regular after being taken off of the pill.

I have been taking Aviane (the generic of Alesse) for six years and have been on the pill (different strengths) for fourteen years.

The birth control works differently on each female. Birth control pills are use as contraception and as treatment for hormonal imbalances and endometriosis and other medical conditions. You are very fortunate that the pill help you regulate your cycles. I think that you are very normal and very fortunate that the pill has that good effect on you.
