My problem is I need to find a siphon or a pump or whatever to clean up the food on the bottom of my aquarium. I have a 10 gallon tank with only 1 angel fish. I have the water filled and regularily clean the filter and pump so that the water remains somewhat clean but I hate the look of all the food on the rocks. I am wondering what kind of siphon can I purchase that will help me get rid of the remains at the bottom without having to change the whole thing. It would just simplify my life and help me enjoy my aquarium. Please help.

I shoulda mentioned that I live in a very isolated community. The nearest Wal-Mart to me is 14.5 hours by train and a one hour flight that costs more than $400. My bad!
If you can give me a name of an actual 'siphony thing' I can make an order for it. I won't be near a Wal-Mart for another month. Thanks again.

Hey again! I have larger greay rocks in my tank as I hate the small colored gravel that they sell. I am also very unsure now as to what size my tank is after your guy's comments. I want to say Thanks though to all of you as they are great ideas and it's just good toknow that something does exist for my needs. My angel fish though is small and the aquarium is a great size for him. I do feed him like 3 times a day but only very small pinches and the water pump actually forces most of the food down into the rocks so he may not get to eat all his food, thus leading to my question.

You can buy a siphon at your aquarium / pet store. I siphon the bottom of my tank and remove 20% of my tanks water once a week. I replace with the water with tap water treated with Aqua-Safe to make tap water safe and add 1 table spoon of Aquarium salt for tropical fish. If you do this then you will not have to change the filter as often and the tank stays really clear and the fish are very healthy.

Just feed less? There should not be any extra food falling to the bottom of the tank - or very little, anyway. Feed very SMALL pinches over 30 seconds, then stop. Do this twice a day, and that's more than enough. Fish have very small stomachs - they always seem hungry but a small amount of food is more than enough.
That said, you still need to do weekly water changes. You'll find it helps a lot to vacuum the gravel. Any syphon tube will do; just go to the petstore and pick one out. They all work the same way, just a plastic tube with a larger plastic syphon at the end that goes in the tank.
I would like to note than your angelfish should not be in a 10 gallon tank. The minimum for an angelfish would be 20 gallons and that's a bare minimum. My angelfish are taller than a 10 gallon tank is. An upgrade is definitely necessary.

You can get some great gravel cleaners (Vacuum cleaners) from stores on the net. You should feed only sufficient food as is eaten within 4 minutes, 2 to 3 times daily. End of problem!

They do make a 2" hard plastic tube that is attached to a flexible hose. When you submerge it in water, you can simply put your thumb over the end of the flex hose and start siphoning out. You jab the hard tube into the rocks and it pulls out debris as the water flows. This works great on larger tanks. Not sure if it's small enough to handle in a 10 gallon. Good luck

basically anything with a tube to lead to a bucket. Just create your own syphon by suckin on the end of the tube and keep the end below the water level and woochie the end in the water around to pick up the gunk. It doesnt need to be expensive.

There's some siphony things you can buy at the pet store. Ask them. What really works the best is an "under gravel filter." It's like a tray with holes in it that hooked to another little filter. I'm sure there are other things too.

Get rid of the pebbles or rocks. Your angel fish will survive even without it. Try to visit the link below for more information.

if there is food on the rocks, could be that you are overfeeding your fish. they should have the siphon things at your local pet supply shop.
