I am a barefooter and a hispanic, but yes, I know what you mean - the barefoot shoppers I see are mostly white, even though hispanics are the majority here in South Texas. I can't believe you all have NEVER seen anyone out and about barefoot, where exactly do you live and how old are you folks??....Perhaps it's because you don't bother looking......Oh well, it's not that big a deal, as long as no one tries to spread lies about health or sanitary issues.....

I'm a barefooter and have only seen a handful of others barefoot in the ten years I've been doing it, I couldn't make any statements based on those numbers. However I'm also a member of a barefoot mailing list and we have very few minority members. Sometimes the question comes up why that is, and we generally think it's because there is so much of a bias against bare feet in the US (it's NOT against the law to go shopping barefoot, it is NOT against the law to drive barefoot, in spite of two persistant myths that waaaaay too many people believe. Please see source), and there's still also quite a bit of racism left... people who already have to deal with biases due to their race probably don't want to add more fuel to the fire... it's tough enough already to be a minority member. But there are some folks of any race or origin who like to go barefoot in public, I know of at least a few black & hispanic members in the US, as well as some in South America.

I'm a barefooter like the other post'r here and I too rarely see other barefooters out and about. I am however of hispanic heritage but with the European mix I have on my mothers side a person couldn't tell what nationality I am. Here's one Mexican who loves to shop barefoot.

I have never ever seen a person shop barefooted let alone in plain view of others with no shoes on. Is that a white thing? Don't know what your trying to say here.

It does seem more like a WHITE thing. Trailer trash WHITES love to go barefoot. Upper-middle class WHITE teens love going barefoot because it makes them look rebellious. Other minorities probably worked hard all of their lives just to get to the point that they could wear shoes 24/7, so why would they take them off to go shopping now?
