The AMC Matador coupe of the 1970's always stuck me of one of the goofiest car designs ever. Did any of you ever have the joy of owning or driving one of these beauties.

It drove just a goofy as you remember it looked. The thing had a desert setting on the dash. I have no idea what it was for but it had one! The Pacer was even worse. It was like a fish tank on wheels.

AMCs got a bad rap in the 70's. Matadors weren't the prettiest car around, but withthe big 390, they were pretty good performers. The AMX and Javelin with the 4 barrel 390s were hotter than almost anything the Big 3 put out in 70 and 71.

My best friend owned one in Vegas when I was in High School, It was a 72 or 73 with a 440 in it, It was a great car, we use to eat up other hot rods out on the road, all until the day the Pantera showed up. Damn those things are fast. But anyway, yes, I drove one many a times, I miss that car.

The Matador wasn't that bad. In fact, Donnie Allison did quite well with his on the NASCAR circuit.

The Matador always reminded me of a dog squatting for a poop?
