An elevator stopped at the middle floor of a building. It then moved up 4 floors and stopped. It then moved down 6 floors and them moved up ten floors and stopped. The elevator was now three floors from the top floor. How many floors does the building have? HINT: What does the word "middle" imply?

I got 22 floors as an answer...Is this right?

No, that's not right.
To have a middle floor, there must be an odd number of floors.

Ok, I got 23 floors, maybe you made a slight error somewhere?

My answer is 23. I think 'middle' implies an odd number of floors. Same number above and below the middle floor. Middle = 12th floor.

Middle floor = X. X +4 -6 +10 = X+ 8. The top floor = X + 11. Since middle = X, 11 + X + 11 is our formula. X = 1 (floor)

11 + 1 + 11 = 23

23 i believe. First you have the middle floor which is floor # 12. You go up four floors, then down six floors, which is two floors below the middle , #12. Then you count up 10 floors, which is 8 floors above the middle, #12. If after counting up 10 floors the elevator is 3 floors below the top floor, altogether there is 11 floors above the middle, #12. Counting the 11 floors above the middle, there must be 11 more floors below the middle floor, and dont' forget to add the middle floor, leaving you with 23 floors altogether.

I get 23 floors. The middle floor is 12. Up four would be 16th floor. Down six would be the 10th. Up ten would be the twentieth floor and three floors from the top floor would make it 23 floors.

the reasoning for 23 is that at the last step, the middle is 11 floors from the top, and as its the middle its 11 floors from the bottom
so add those and you get 22, but then you have to add in the middle floor to get 23
