there is a law that says you have to be 18 to get your D.L. in California. However you can get a permit at the age of 16, but the only way to move a vechile is if you are riding with a licensed driver in the shotgun seat.

It depends on where you are. I believe there are a few cities that make you wait until you are 18. However, generally speaking, you can get it at 16. (Atlanta does the same thing!)

Why not try calling your local Dept. of Motor Vehicles and get that answer directly from the horse's mouth?
