Etta James (born Jamesetta Hawkins January 25, 1938 in Los Angeles, California) is an American Blues, R&B and Gospel singer. In the 1950s and 60s, she had her biggest success as a Blues and R&B singer. She is best-known for her 1961 ballad "At Last", which has been classified as a "timeless classic" and has been featured in many movies and television commercials since its release.

In the 1920s, Ma Rainey, "The Mother of the Blues," became a featured performer on the T.O.B.A (Theater Owners Booking Association) circuit.

Bessie Smith was the greatest and most influential classic blues singer of the 1920s.

In 1899, Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" became the first Ragtime composition to become a sheet music best-seller, detonating an explosion which made Ragtime the big noise in American music.

Hope some of these help.
