There are several ways to for example:
1. Use energy conserving light bulbs these are cheap and can be found almost anywhere.
2. Use the Air Conditioner when it is absolutely necessary, if you need to be cool use a handheld fan or small fan that uses batteries. These are incredibly cheap (available at .99 cents store)
3. Cut down use of electrical appliances, for example instead of using a electrical whisk to beat eggs just take a whisk and stir the eggs really fast.
4. (this one is particularly hard for me) cut down your usage of electric entertaining, instead use something else to entertain yourself. Like reading, sleeping, eating, and other ways of having fun without the use of electricity.
5. Perhaps something that everybody always seems to bypass when considering ways they could cut back on power usage is light bulbs. When you leave a room turn of the light, it saves tons of power and keeps your wallet / pocketbook nice and fat, with whats important: beautiful green little pieces of paper that cause people to die and people to be saved, but certainly put a smile on my face :)
Hope that helped!
I swear i didn't copy the lightbulb suggestion from David M. While I was writing this long response David M. had given his response.

There are several ways:
1. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners are the heaviest electricity users. If they are old, replace them with new, more energy efficient ones.
2. If you have or can get natural gas, use it for water and space heating, clothes drier, oven and the stove.
3. Get and install programmable thermostat so you can set back the cool/heat settings when no one is home.
4. Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact flourescent bulbes.
5. Install attic fan(s) that turn on when the attic temperature is several degrees hotter than the outside temperature.
6. Have your house thermal imaged to see if there are any thermal leaks. Repair them with weather stripping or expanding foam.
7. Double insulate your attic.
8. Install proximity detector switches. They detect when a room is absent of humans and turns the light off after selected delay.
9. Install programmable dampers so unused rooms do not get heat or cool. Also say after midnight only the bedrooms get heat/cool and then back on an hour before wake up time.
10. If you don't mind the inconvenience, by using a switching multiple outlet, turn off AC power to all electrical and electronics devices that require electricity even if they're off (they are in standby mode so they still consumer few watts of power even if they're off). This means you can't use your remote to turn the device(s) on and no clock desplay. One benefit is you're protected from power surges when they are off.
11. If you can afforded it, invest in a electrical solar panel. I saw one familiy on TV with the solar panels that pay virtually nothing for electricity. Sometimes they get money back from the electric company because they return excess power back to the grid than they consume.
There are many more ways I'm sure.

I got rid of a 10 year old Amana Ref. and bought a new one same size. My electric went down $12 a month The new ones are so much more efficient. Then I saw that and got rid of that Freezer in the garage and it went down another $20. My new billing here in Chicago is no more than $49 a month now. Anything with a motor eats lots of watts Im told by the electric company.

To cut back I would combine the use of power when doing chores. By doing this you also same time. When washing try to wait for a full load before washing. Fill your dishwasher wish rinsed dishes so it won't stick to plate wait until full. Watch your lights in the house . Just by turning off lights it save my electric bill by 40%. Don't let TVs or radios on when not in use. Enjoy your appliances just be watchful when not in use . You'll be surprise when you bill comes in. Turn down the heat when you are sleeping this helps your heating to with electric.

One fast way is go through your house and replace your light bulbs with lower wattage bulbs, you would be amazed at how much elect. is used by 100 watt bulbs, when a 60 or 75 watt would do the job. a more up front cost way is to replace with flourescent bulbs but that gets expensive. It will save in the long run though. I also agree with looking into new energy efficient appliances, but also expensive, but effective. check your water heater setting as well, it doesn't need to be above 125 degrees, anymore is just wasting elect.
