Ever heard of Juneteenth?
That's the day that news of emancipation was announced in many locations in the South.
News was announced at different times in different regions, remember they dind't have mass communication like we have now. In fact it might take weeks just to find out that a treaty was signed and a war was over. So emancipation day doesn't have the coherent power that it would have if it were all announced on one day.
The next best thing is MLK day.

The emancipation of black people did not happen in one day. It's a long struggle that still isn't over. Have you learned anything in school? The emancipation proclamation did not make African-Americans free. What would making it a national holiday do any way? Provoke more racist movements and controversy?

How might I begin?.......
Ok
You see emancipation is only a temp waiver towards converting slaves into share croppers/ indentured servants, paying back the pennies earn to do the same slave work, in order to live in a shack house eating pig mess. This today (only about70-90 odd yrs later) is sneakily converted into "minimum wage, and some new white man's invention called paying rent to a "land LORD".
(sorry some of you white folks got caught in the midst of what was intended for blacks)
If you ask me so called Emancipation is the worst thing that happened to us, Now if we were liberated back then, we would today be as the Jewish, Asian, and Indian communities.
Far as June 19th, the truth is the world banned slavery, the north abolished slavery, parts of the south even, but Texans fought to the end to keep their slaves, and surrendered June 19th.
Houston for example is most populated with black ghettos and is called Bayou city by whites, why?
Because bayou means SLAVES!!
secret ways of this world,,
what a shame...

It is celebrated different days in different places. Most people celebrate it on the day the slaves in their area learned of emancipation. In our town it is August 8th. We have a good time and the city is very accommodating with parks and other places. We even have a parade.

Are you referring to the Emanicaption Proclimation? Because if you are, it didn't really free anyone, so why would it be celebrated?

That day has not yet fully come. Many are still enslaved by their own victim mentalities.
