Western Montana is truely beautiful and I love visiting, but I think the unemployment rate is quite high. Jackson Hole is great, but expensive. What about Cheyenne? I lived in Denver for a short time, jobs don't seem to be a big problem there, I would live on the suburbs though as the city is crowded as most large cities are. I live in central Oregon halfway between Eugene and Sisters. It is beautiful here, jobs are there for the taking, and I will not be moving again. I too was a single mom with twins and I raised them in western Washington which is nice but lots of rain, there is less rain here and more clear days. Good luck with your journey.

I am partial to Montana, where I was born and raised. The whole state is beautiful. Western MT has the highest cost of living but also probably the most opportunity for employment. Western MT has a lot more environmentalists and out of state residents. Eastern MT is very laid back and the people are very warm and welcoming. The cost of living is much lower and the people make you feel like you belong. If I had to choose and I was a single mom, I would choose Miles City, located in the SE corner of the state. My husband and I used to lilve around there working on ranches and the people are just GREAT!! And the town is growing. They have a Community College and growth on the job front. And there is a LOW crime rate. And best of all, home to the World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale every May. This is a true "western cowboy town". Good luck! Hope you enjoy wherever you end up.

Look at Lander, Wy. Gorgeous. I want to retire there in 30 years.
