I want to build an outdoor play area and I don't know if I should put a wire bottom on it.

If you build a play area...do not leave the bunnies unattended alone overnight. They r the lowest on the food chain and predators "luv" some rabbit chops!! especially baby rabbitts!

If foxes r prevalent in your area, I would not do this at all.

Yes, you should. And be sure to connect the wire bottom to the sides, because not only will your bunny dig, a predator may too. You will have to build a very sturdy, secure enclosure if your rabbit is going to be outside!

Put hardware cloth on the bottom (that's a stout wire mesh) because said critters do like to dig, and while escape may not actually be on his little bunny brain, if he does manage to dig his way out, he ain't likely to live long enough to find his way back - or want to. Why not live? Ask the neighborhood dogs, cats and hawks, any one of which would be delighted to find hasenpfeffer on the hoof!
