I answered an IQ question before and someone else made a comment that there are so many people that think they are above average. It seemed like that person thought that the answerers were being cocky or something. I am just curious if I was one of those people he/she was talking about. So, what is the IQ range of the average population?
And how do you figure out your mental age?

A standard IQ test gives this as the answer high school grad 100, college grad 115, post graduate 125. So the way to find the average IQ of a particular demographic is to find first the average level of schooling then from that you will have the numbers you need to find the collective IQ of your demographic or one of interest.

100 is average and 90-110 is the average range. 150+ is genius range and below 90 is not so good.
Not sure what you mean by mental age, but if you mean how do you find out what your IQ is, the answer is that you ask a certified psychologist to administer the IQ test to you.
I took mine through MENSA, which is an organization who's members are among the top 2% of the population in terms of IQ score. Look them up in your local listings and they'll give you the test for a fee.
Believe me, just because someone has genius level IQ doesn't mean they're smart or pleasant. There are as many creeps in MENSA as there are in the general population.

The I.Q. (intelligence quotient) average was set up to be 100, but people with an I.Q. ranging from 90 to 110 are considered to be average. This covers the middle 50% of the U. S. population.

The percentage of Americans in various categories is as follows:
5% Lower than 75
20% 75-90
50% 90-110
20% 110-125
5% Higher than 125

Originally, IQ was calculated with this formula: 100 times mental age divided by chronological age.
A 10-year-old who scored as high as the average 13-year-old, for example, would have an IQ of 130 (100*13/10).

Because this formula only worked for children, it was replaced by a projection of the measured rank on the Gaussian bell curve with a center value (average IQ) of 100. Thus the modern version of the IQ is a mathematical transformation of the rank. To differentiate the two scores, modern scores are sometimes referred to as "deviance IQ", while the age-specific scores are referred to as "ratio IQ".

Hope this helps! I have a feeling that you are definitely above average (but don't tell anyone!)

Average IQ is around 90 to 115. Lower than that, and you might be be intelligent, just not informed or uncaring about topical subjects... .on down to mental retardation.
Higher than that, and you are well read, and highly informed on a variety of subects, on up to genious levels.
