I think it was wrong. Forcing people to labor for you against their will, with often poor nurishment, poorly clothed, barely sheltered (no slave cabins were not appropriate shelter), seperating families by selling them off to various plantations, raping young slave girls, forcing slaves who didn't necessarily love each other but were good "stock" to BREED against their will...all of these things are horribly wrong and are only a small list of the indecencies generation upon generation of slaves faced.

So, no, we should not have kept it.

And we should find a way to eradicate slavery that still exists in the world today - such as the many children who are sold into sexual slavery in Cambodia, etc. Let's ask questions about how to end slavery that is happening in this world now.

I believe slavery is immoral. Each person owns themselves, so buying or selling someone who is already owned is immoral.

No, I do not think we should have kept slavery. I do, however, think that the timing was wrong for the emancipation. That is hindsight though. If I had been alive then, and if I had been a slave, I am sure there would have been no "wrong" time for emancipation.

I think it was an atrocity, so no, I definately do not think we should have kept it, nor do I think it should have ever been done. I also don't think we had the right to take the land away from the indians, what does all this taking and using and beating and killing say about us as a society? At least we are a little more civilized now, we just go to other countries and try to run theirs.

Slavery is absolutely wrong. It is a part of history, but unfortunately it still exists in some areas of the world. People who advocate it should imagine themselves in the position of servitude rather than the other way around. It's just a throw of the dice that says who gets born into which social strata - so we should give every person as much opportunity as they wish to take advantage of in order to succeed in this world. Life's too short to continue to disseminate hatred.

First of all many slaves were sold into slavery by their own people. Many slaves had it much better as slaves than they had it back where they came from. The jungle was a deadly place. A very short life span was their fate and inter tribe killing was the rule just like the American Indians.

I think slavery was a hardship that black people had to endure. I don't think we should've kept it because as time passes, black people would've a hell of a lot smarter and diffinitely whould'nt take any sh** from nobody. But if your talkin' about enslaving the Bush administration...well now thats different!

Better be careful when posting a slavery question. You'll have the blacks messaging you and telling you what a white supremacist you are and how YOU are the cause of all their trouble and miseries. In reality 2/3rds. of the black population are higher racist than the 1/3rd. of the white racist.

No, like the typical person would ask, what if it was you who is being whipped at the moment? I think slavery is a brutal and cruel way to show us that we are as low as animals in ranks but are smarter than them in intellect. Which pratically proves them false logically. (If people are wondering why) We can't fall lower than animals because we have the ability of reasoning (intellect). Why can't animals reason? because their cerebrum isn't as large as ours.

What slavery are you referring to? Americans had black slaves. Indians enslaved other tribes, Africans enslaved other tribes. Italians enslaved the English....It's been around for thousands of years...

Slavery is just wrong. But you know honestly...how many people do you know who are slaves??? Most of us are slaves to the dollar bill. We work our lives away to pay the bills, to drive our cars.
