Classic typically means 60's and 70's while retro is typically 80's. Heh i heard one person on Yahoo answers say his favorite 80's song was Stairway To Heaven so that shows you the intellegence of some of the people answering these questions.
Best to ask by decade it seems so if you're classifying Guns N Roses as classic rock i'd have to say The Cure...yeah that's right the Godfathers of Emo Rock.
If you said hard rock or metal then i'd say Iron Maiden.

I remember when Pink Floyd, Lynard Skynard, Boston, and others from the 70s were considered Classic Rock. Oh well.
