I just graduated, I have a BComm in accounting, I do not know what sort of entry-level accounting position is reasonable, because it appears that I can only do accounts payable clerk positions. My other friends they are oil sands anaylst or property tax accountant. I don't know what is wrong with me.

Unfortunately you have 2 strikes, no experience and no CPA. When it comes to money companies are reluctant to give you a decent position until you prove your knowledge and trustworthiness. My suggestion is to find a larger public company that you can start in the finance organization. Perhaps booking journal entries for the senior accountant. This would teach you the ropes and get you good experience and mentoring.

In the USA there is a major shortage of accountants in the public auditing arena. Doing staff work AP/clerk, would be below an accounting major in this country. That said, most financial type positions (analysts), usually require some degree of experience in the industry. It may serve you best to look for an internship to gain industry specific experience.

if you are able to wait a bit of time and search until you find the right job then you will position yourself on right track because all it takes is for you to land one good job starting as a staff accountant. And you can find that through an agency or on your own (.. in the beginning be kind of flex about the salary though)

just get the actual on the job experience asap (then move on up within the co. or for another co.) (don't go for the first job that comes along, ie a/p...etc) and then you can easily move on up from there. hope this helped. Best of luck!
