Nervous is good but unless you've never been to your OB/GYN, ever before you already know what the pap smear will be like. That's one of the tests they do. Another is the simple peliv examine, both in and out. They'll do a urine test of course, which you'll get used to each and every visit. They may also do a unltrasound to check just how far along (some don't, most do) Even if you know your last cycle and they've given you an Estimated date already, it's pretty normal for them to check it out anyways. You'll get more of these later on also.
If your doctors office handles the blood tests themselves you'll be having that done there for your first visit. Otherwise you'll be told to go to a lab and get blood drawn, for varies and numberous of tests. They'll take your medical history, talk to you about anything you have questions about, and more or less just get a feel of what to expect the next couple of months. You'll be going once a month, and towards the end (last two months) you'll be starting to go in every two week, and the last every week.
After your first visit with your doctor it's pretty much the same, they'll be checking weight, urine, how your feeling, blood pressure, after 14 weeks I think it is they'll be starting to check in on the babies heart beat each check up, along with measuring how big your growing.
Later on you'll also get more blood tests done, but you've got sometime before that.
Take care, Congrats!

Don't be nervous, it should be a painless procedure. You will probably be told to take prenatal vitamins if you haven't already. I'm pretty sure you will get to hear the baby's heartbeat (yea)! The ob will let you know what tests will be done to make sure the baby will be okay (strictly routine) and he/she will give you a run down of what you should and should not be doing, foods you should eat. From here on in they will take your vitals, and weight every visit, and after awhile they will check belly growth. Make sure you and your hubby write down ?s you have before the visit and bring the paper with you. Your Dr. will be able to answer ?s you have since you'll probably forget most of them while your there. You will visit the dr. quite a bit for the next seven months, and it will be a pain toward the end, but enjoy yourself. Take advantage of everything you can while pregnant (people are so nice). It's a fun ride. You can't get the first one back, even if you get pregnant a dozen more times. The first one is the best. Good luck to you.

I am impressed with the amount of time they plan to spend with you for your visit. My recollection is a vaginal ultrasound in order to hopefully hear a heartbeat. How cool is that! Try and figure out when your last period was so they can accurately predict your due date. My OB gave us a copy of "What to Expect While Expecting" so don't buy one in case they give you one. You will get a prescription for pre-natal vitamins if you aren't already taking them. Some people get upset stomachs from them, so if that happens take them before bed. I kept a journal for both of my kids to document this miracle and have kept it up for 5 years, although not as regularly as I'd like. Congratulations.

On my first visit, I had a urine sample, blood work and an ultra sound. My Ob also checked for my pelvic bone, asked a bunch of health related questions and told me about the foods and drinks I should stay away from as well as telling me I should exercise everyday. It all depends on your OB I guess! Congratulations! Good Luck! Everyone is a wee bit nervous!!

the initial exam is very simple, and will only take a couple mins. i have no idea why it would ever be an hour. maybe you are having an ultrasound too? the exam should be like a regular pelvic exam, and your doc will do a pap smear. you will also get your blood pressure taken, weight, pulse... pretty simple stuff. they will probably get a urine sample, and blood too. oh, and if you dont do an ultrasound your doc will probably listen to the babys heartbeat. congrats on your baby!

the first half hour the nurse asks you questions about your medical history, and she will let you know about the vitamins you need to take give you information on pregnancy not to bad. On the other half of your visit it will be the pelvic exam to make sure you are pregnant and give you a pap smear just like a routine visit

they generally do exactly a collection of paper artwork, ask you medical questions (particular tell them with regard to the abortion they gained't be judgmental yet they do could be conscious of for risk-free practices motives), take a urine and probable a blood pattern, take your weight and your blood rigidity, answer any questions you have, and once you're far sufficient alongside, you will get to pay attention the middle beat! After my first appointment it substitute into comfortable crusing. Weight verify, urine pattern each and each time, are available and do the blood rigidity, hop on the table and pay attention the heart beat, ask any questions, omit problems and medicines, asking how i'm feeling, answering questions. There are some cases once you may get some blood drawn (thrice entire for me) and you may do the glucose try, which isn't undesirable in any respect. It tastes like an orange soda without the carbonation or like an orange freeze it incredibly is melted. once you're O adverse then you fairly'll greater advantageous than probable get the RH adverse shot to neutralize yours and infants blood and you will could get this after transport to boot if toddler isn't a adverse blood variety. After the glucose try, it incredibly is merely the same. Weight, urine, blood rigidity, heartbeat, questions/solutions. Oh, and remember with regard to the ultrasounds!!! you may get one around 14 weeks (i think of) and then the final one is around 20 weeks the place you will detect out the gender in case you like. it incredibly is incredibly impressive and is going by so rapid!

As I recall, the examination is very much like the annual exam you (probably) get every year. Sounds like they're leaving you plenty of time for questions and discussion, too, which is great.
Good luck!
