Ever since I was small I've wanted to do something with Animals. Earlier on I wanted to be a vet, and then a marine biologist, but I really think I've discovered my true calling. I want to be a Zoologist, speciallizing in big cats, Lions especially.

Can any of you please help me in deciding how I should prepare for this career? I'm still in school right now but are there any special classes I need to take, or schools I need to go to in order to achieve this goal? I just don't want to have this dream job in my head, and then get to college only to discover how ill prepared I am...

definately job shadow a zoo keeper at a zoo. Most zoos have a high school program. See if you could do that job day in and day out.
What you are probably going to be doing is picking up after them. Scraping leftover meat, smelling like nasty cat carnivore poop (I like big cats, but their excrement and natural odor reeks!). Oh- know that most AZA accredited zoos feed their carnivores horse meat- and that you would have to do it.
zookeepers also do not get paid much, and many are just scraping by.

Also as a zoologist (I am assuming you mean zookeeper by this and not research), it might be a good idea to get a masters because it is highly competitive for the charismatic megafauna, esp big cats and wolves.

As for classes- just take a lot of science ones in high school.
For college- make sure that you have one with a zoology or wildlife major. You need to do well- it is a highly competitive field. Zoos also look at experience- get as much animal experience as you can now. You may have to start out at a petting zoo to build up experience, but there are a couple big cat openings right now- look at the www.AZA.com website.

I know this was a jumbled bit of info- but good luck!

Get all the AP math and science classes you can, especially the biology. Remember, zoology is a division of biology and you better take some chemistry while you are at it. You will need all of that in pursuing a zoology career. The above post ( number one ) has good ideas too.

Hi, you should start by volunteering during your free time at zoos, or at vets. Experience with animals are very important in the field you mentioned. Plus zoology, requires taking science subjects, especially chemistry and maths would required too.

maximum sturdy faculties have a Zoology considerable or a minimum of a Biology considerable for undergraduates. while you will get some jobs in zoology with in basic terms a bachelor's degree, maximum zoologists pass on for a grasp's or doctorate.
