Kinda' lame to say, "I think he'll be lonely." Since he's a betta but... come on! :P Haha Poor guppies going to have to stay in there little cup until I can put them back in the big guppy tank where they were born (10 gallon tank of guppies I have aside from the 1 gallon betta tank :P )

ANYWAY -- Anyone know of any good *SMALL* heaters for my tiny little 1 gallon tank I keep my betta in? I have one now, but it's only used for getting your water up to the right temperature, which I can't leave unmonitored. :( *The darn thing can reach 170 degrees or something it said <-outside of water! OMG -- Is the company trying to fry my fish?!*

I have one in my 10 gallon tank, but I think it's too big <-but perfect for my small tank. :(

*one I bought for small tank; can't adjust temperature whatsoever. one for big tank; can mess with all you want*

there are no heaters for anything under 2 gallons, and bettas shouldn't be kept in anything uder 2.5 gallons. the two people who said they are cold water fish, you are wrong. bettas come from tailand, where the water temps are around 80°F. they also live in rice paddies, not puddles, so small tanks really aren't suitable. each betta has a very large terriroty ro hiself.

ideally, he should be kept in a 5gallon tank with a filter and heater and a few silk plants. 25watt heater is perfect for a 5gallon tank. this will make it so you don't have to do 1/4 water changes every three days with a syphon and full water changes once or twice a month, which is quite a hassle and stresses the fish a lot.

if there is room he could happily be kept with the guppies most likely, however monitor him to make sure he isn't agressive with them.

if you can't get a 5 gallon tank please at least get a 2.5 gallon tank, filters are available for these sized tanks,so you still would have minimal full changes. but more importantly there is a heater for this size tank:

*edit*
the link I provided is to the hydor 7.5 heater, however it really shouldn't be used on less than 2 gallons

Bettas are tropical fish, not coldwater fish and if the tank (or bowl) is too cool it needs a heater, it's just that simple. Hydor makes a 7.5 watt heater that would be ok for a 1 gallon bowl, but a smaller 4 watt would be better. I know they are out there but don't know the brand. A good et store should be able to order one for you or you might find one online.

i don't heat my bettas but i live in fla and my room is never below 72. things you can do -- get your betta a tank with a light. mine (2 1/2 gallons) have lights (15 watts) and they warm the water up a lot. or put him under a lamp and that will warm him up too.

that small of a tank shouldn't need a heater. if oyu ahve a hood/light on it that should be enough to heat it. or it's small enough that it should stay warm at room temperature.
