I've replaced the EGR valve before and the first mechanic said there was a water deposit inside that could be the cause. The service light came on again 5 months later saying the EGR was bad again. What could cause the water deposit? I know I have a leak in my valve cover gasket that leaks in my spark plug bay.

the egr has nothing to do with the valve covers leaking. if you are getting moisture in the egr, take a small piece of cotton and put it in the hole. it won't interfere with the egr function and will keep the water from getting in. the use of cotton to keep water out of air lines is how water is kept out of commercial air conditioning control lines which are air actuated. before doing this, check the vacuum lines for cracks which would allow air in to the valve. even a small frayed end can do it and so could an oversized line.
