I'm thinking about getting a 96 Trans Am 5.7 V8. At the time, the car surveys were raving about how reliable and well-made these cars were. Has that translated into good longevity? Or would a ten-year old Trans Am fall apart on me like a lasagna?

My father had that exact same year T/A and it ran beautifully. I believe he had to put a little money into it like a window motor and power antenna. He recently traded it in to a dealer and they gave him $8,000.

One main thing to look out for is the radiator, for some reason some of the T/A's will spring a leak in the side tanks. It can be temp. patched with some epoxy, but it is better to replace or rebuild the radiator.

Most of the ones I have seen are holding up pretty well.Just depends on how much you want to spend for one. A good one is only by logic going to cost more than one that has been beat to death.

If it was driven by a little old lady, it should be fine. But mostly they were driven hard by folks with heavy feet. Unless it's pristine, steer clear!

Don't do it, they are the most worst cars made, their motor gets screwed up in about three months.
