A Congressman taking a million US dollars "under the table" or a person stealing a hundred dollars from the bank tellers counter.

What are the guidelines for these sentences?

it would be the bank rober.. funny think he could steal one doller from the bank and get more time.... but if you want a really long time in prison go to the post office and steal a stamp....

Is the Congressperson a Democrat or a Republican?

If it's a Democrat who votes properly on woman's issues and other things. then this person made a serious error in judgement and should be let off as lightly as possible.

If it's a Republican then the Dirty Rotten Scoundrel that took bread out of the mouths of starving children should be crucified in the press and thrown in jail for a hundred years and reviled and spit on!

I am being sarcastic but this is how the liberals veiw it.

As far as the petty thief goes he really should have stuck to bullying pacifist liberals out of their lunch money.

Its not the law that makes the difference, it the lawyer. If you have to steal $100, you are getting a crappy public attorney and will probably be executed.

both bribery and robbery are felonies, and federal crimes, but bank robbery carries a heavier sentence because force or fear was used to take the money.
